PLEASE JOIN US FOR ONE FINAL CELEBRATION!

To celebrate the many achievements and great work done by Uprising Theatre Company over six years of productions featuring trans and nonbinary artists, its leadership and board are hosting an outdoor event on Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm.

The Final Curtain: A Farewell Celebration event will recognize the contributions of the artists, volunteers, and supporters who kept the theatre moving forward on its mission of presenting “stories to change the world.” Admission is free, but advance registration is requested. You will receive the event address when you register.

We’re gathering to celebrate the achievements and impact we have made together since 2015. The Final Curtain: A Farewell Celebration will include a short program featuring Founder and Artistic Director Shannon TL Kearns, as well as other leaders and performers who have made Uprising Theatre a special company. Of course, all remaining Uprising Theatre merch will be available for sale.

The Final Curtain: A Farewell Celebration will be an outdoor event. We ask that everyone attending follow CDC guidelines. If you are not fully vaccinated against COVID, please respect those around you and wear a mask. We’ll serve hors d’oeuvres and beverages, with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available.

Please join us to write the last chapter of the Uprising Theatre story together. As part of that, we want to suggest two ways you can participate in honoring us before this event:

Support Our Mission

We’re so grateful for all the support we have received over the years from patrons and donors, as well as partners and social media followers. If you’re able, please make one final donation to show your gratitude for Uprising’s impact in the community. Funds will be used to support the Theatre’s final expenses, with anything left over going to carry on its overall mission.

Offer a Tribute

Has Uprising Theatre, or the people you have met while supporting our work, made a difference in your life? If so, we’d love to hear about it. We’ve been devoted to “Stories that change the world,” and if we’ve done anything that changed yours, please let us know. If it’s okay with you, we’ll share your tribute at the celebration.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

A final message from our founder

Though Uprising Theatre’s work is finished, the essential work of centering the voices of talented trans and nonbinary artists continues. I have devoted my life to supporting this community of transgender and gender nonconforming people artistically and spiritually. My work will continue through other creative projects, and my active advocacy for inclusion of marginalized voices in the arts remains central to my life’s work.

Please join me in continuing to push too. To keep supporting organizations who are championing this cause. To never stop advocating for human rights. To keep telling stories that change the world.
