Twenty-two years ago, Miriam’s son, Robert, committed a horrible crime. Robert was caught, tried, and convicted of first-degree murder and has been sitting on death row ever since. In seven hours the state will execute him. As is the tradition, Robert is granted a last meal. His request: a slice of his mother’s apple pie.

This was a site specific performance with intimate audience seating in an industrial kitchen.

Cast and Crew:

Gina Sauer:Miriam. Gina is thrilled to be in her first show with Uprising Theatre Company, and her second show working with director, Shalee Coleman. She returned to acting after a 20-year hiatus, and since then has been fortunate to appear with theaters throughout the Twin Cities including Lyric Arts, 20% Theatre, Gadfly, Aethem Theatre, Little Lifeboats, and Maggie’s Farm. Favorite past roles include Sally Bowles in Cabaret and Penelope Sycamore in You Can’t Take It With You. Gina hopes the audience will be touched as deeply by Apples in Winter as she was the first time she read the script.

Jennifer Fawcett: Playwright: Jennifer Fawcett (Playwright): Jennifer is a founder and Co-Artistic Director of Working Group Theatre. She is the winner of the NEFA National Theatre Project Award (with Working Group Theatre) for her two-play project, Out of Bounds, with had two national tours, the National Science Playwriting Award (KC/ACTF) for Atlas of Mud, and she was nominated for the ATCA/Steinberg New Play Award for her play Birth Witches. Her work has been developed and produced by Berkeley Repertory Theatre’s Ground Floor, the Lark (New York), Hancher Auditorium (University of Iowa), Riverside Theatre (Iowa City), Available Light Theatre (Columbus), Tennessee Women’s Theatre Project (Nashville), the Source Festival (Washington, DC), Palm Beach Dramaworks (West Palm Beach), and Halcyon Theatre (Chicago), among others. A graduate of the University of Iowa MFA Playwrights Workshop, she was the NNPN Playwright-In-Residence at Curious Theatre Company (Denver). Shalee Coleman: Director. Shalee is an early career director/choreographer in the twin cities who specializes in working with visionary playwrights and performers to assist them in realizing their work. Shalee has previous directed with 20% Theatre Company, Freshwater Theatre Company, Gadfly Theatre Company, Theatre Unbound, her Minnesota Fringe Company: Play-dot, and has assistant directed with Walking Shadow. She is proud to direct her fourth show with Uprising Theatre Company.

Heather Burmeister: Stage Manager. Heather is honored to be working with Uprising Theatre Company for the first time as a stage manager for this show! She has been doing theater in the Twin Cities since 2012, and has worked with Chandid Theater Company, Mosaic Productions, Theatre Unbound, Theatre in the Round, Mission Theatre Company, Chameleon Theatre Circle along with many other fantastic groups. When not stage managing, she can sometimes be found running around onstage as an actor, working in a box office, or ushering here and there. Heather is extremely lucky to be a part of such a vibrant community, and cannot explain how grateful she is to be part of this show!
